Sometimes even the most computer-dependent jobs need trusty paper and
pen. Different work situations call for different lighting, which Brennan says
is especially important for avoiding hunching over under-lit papers and gadgets. “People are still utilizing documents and stuff on their desks, so having
it adjustable to wherever you need to shift the light, especially as the light
changes throughout the day, that’s really good for people who are often staring
at screens all day,” explains Brennan. She points to Humanscale’s new Infinity
desktop LED lighting system as a good example. It can easily be adjusted to
shine light on different parts of a workspace, and has dimmers and settings
for varied amounts of light at different times of day and sensors to know when
more or less light is needed.
These four main elements, when done right, can make for a working environment that allows the human body to move and function as it’s supposed to,
without forcing it into uncomfortable and unhealthy positions. Simple decisions that can lead to a healthier workforce and a healthier bottom line.
